So far I have not been doing very well at updating on Fridays. So in order to keep my promise I am going to tell you that whenever I update on the website I will for sure email you! I am super sad today as I had so many fun pictures of our math lessons we have been doing to share with you and all our computers got reimagined and a lot of my stuff is missing or has been deleted. I am still searching and working with our Tech people in hopes to relocate them. So for now below are a few things we have been working on this week and some reminders for you! Also, look who stopped by our room with goodies today! :) What are we learning right now? Writing- We have begun working on our Personal Narrative Stories. These are stories that have a problem. Today the students began to draft their stories. Math- OUr first unit so far has been review of what they knew from 2nd grade. We practiced using a number grid, telling time, and using calculators. Please make sure your child puts the time in which they did their homelink each night. If possible using a clock that is not digital! Science- We are studying Earth Materials. The students get to work as geologists to observe what is in a simulation rock. They get to use a "pick" and break the rock into pieces next week to discover what is inside. Reading- We have been practicing how to use our SCHEMA! SCHEMA is our background knowledge and how we are able to make connections in a book. We also are studying subject and predicate. The subject is the who in the sentence and the predicate is the what they are doing. Ask your child the next time they are reading if they were able to make any of these three connections: Text to Self, Text to Text, or Text to World! Keyboarding- Remember learning your home row? That is what we are practicing now. I am encouraging the students to not look at their hands and never peck. So far it is going well. Let them go on the website as much as you would like at home. Cursive- Yep, you read this right! Cursive is still being taught in third grade. The students are learning the basic strokes and will begin to work on letters in the follow weeks. Our hope is to have them finish their book by Winter Break! IMPORTANT Reminders: Schools Alive- This is the yellow sheet that is in your child's agenda. For this week we are recording our Active minutes and seeing which class can get the most! Please make sure to fill this out with your child. Keyboarding- The kids are loving our new keyboarding program. I have sent logins with them in their agenda right behind the cover page. These cards are to stay in their agenda. Please allow your child to go on the computer to do keyboarding whenever you can. They will get to do it once a week in our classroom, but if they are loving it please allow them to do it at home. My only request is you make sure they are using home row and you do not let yourself or any siblings go on it. Every time your child is on it I get a report with what they need to work on. Thanks so much! Homelinks- Homelinks in math are to be completed every night. I understand sometimes things come up and you cannot get to them. If this is the case I asked that they be turned in the next day. If you are noticing your child is having difficulties on it please write me a note on the bottom of it saying you had to help them a lot. This way I know when my students might need a little extra guidance. Your student also has a login for math that is on the backside of their keyboarding card in their agenda. They can go on the everdaymath website as much as they would like. Meet Mike Argall! Does his last name sound at all familiar? This is my dad. He works for the Cass County Sheriffs Department and likes to drop by every now an than. He even loaded your kids up with some goodies today and a math problem. They can't wait to see him next time!

Wrigley is LOVING keyboarding! I am so glad that children are learning this at a young age. We let him do this at home when he asks. I'm glad that you added the note on here not to let siblings or others go on to their account. Very helpful! Thank you!
