This week has been a fast paced week filled with NDSA testing, learning, counselor, firemen presentation, and our fall party. I thought I would share a few pictures from the firemen presentation and fall party!! The kids and I had so much fun. It was nice to be able to see them have a couple minutes to be silly and practice teamwork along with their math facts through some games!!! Enjoy!!

Does your child love to run?
What: Westside's New Running Club When: Monday's and Wednesday's from 7:35 am - 8:05 am Where: Meet in New Gym to stretch and Run outside Students will learn how to: *1. Properly warm up, stretch, and cool down 2. Different kinds of running techniques 3. Pace themselves for different kinds of runs Purpose: Westside is tyring to get kids more active in an enjoyable way, and to help students get in shape. If your child loves to run or even just wants to make new friends I would highly recommend this for them. Have them try it a couple days if they are not sure! : ) Conferences- Thank you soooooooo much to all of the parents who attended parent teacher conferences! It was so nice to be able to meet you again, and get a chance to talk to you about your child! Please feel free to contact me ANYTIME with your child's strengths, concerns, or questions as nobody knows your child better thea you do! I am loving every bit of teaching your 3rd graders this year and can't wait to share their learning with you! I can't thank you enough for your dedication to your child's learning and sharing their successes with me!
NDSA Testing- The students survived their first NDSA Testing this last week. We focused on Reading Part 1 and I know they all gave it their best work! Third grade is the first year they take this test along with all of the 3rd graders in the state, so they get a little nervous! Make sure they are getting as much rest as they can the night before and have a good breakfast. Tell them good luck, but remind them it is just a test! This week we will be taking Reading Part 2 on Tuesday and Reading Part 3 on Wednesday! Art & Projects- Are you wondering why you haven't seen any of your child's art projects or writings? In third grade we have what is called, "A Porfolio Binder." I will be putting all of your students art projects and writing projects into this binder. I will set it out the next time we have conferences, however it will not go home until the end of the year. I feel this is the best as it is nice to have all your child's project in one location! They love to look at this and you will already have one thing saved for when you have their Senior Open House! : ) In hopes that you are able to see all of our projects I will try and post pictures online. I am sorry for the lack of posting lately. Updates & Reminders: Westside Clothing- If you would like to order clothing it is due on November 9th. Fargo Force Reading- We are about half way through our first period. I will be collecting the October Calendars on Thursday. Remember to READ, READ, READ!!! Fall Party- We will have a fall party on Wednesday. Please look for a note home on Monday night asking if you would donate a few items to our party by sending it with your child to school! Students are not allowed to dress up but we will celebrate from 2:00- 2:30! Turkey in Disguise- This is by far one of my favorite projects the kids do outside of school. I love to see their creativity, and the turkies always come back looking so good! Look for more information on this in your child's mail on Monday night! Today we had a surprise visitor stop by our classroom. Who is it? Captain Mike Argall from the Sherriffs Department (aka my dad) ! The students got to learn a mini lesson on the difference between a sherriff and a police offer, the duties of a police officer, and what all their uniform has to offer. We even got a math lesson thrown into it. The students were so excited to talk and ask questions. Luckily we were able to tell him about what we were learning in writing and share a few facts with him.
Daily Reminders: Fargo Force Reading Program Sheet needs to be filled out everynight and signed along with the agenda.. I will be recording the students minutes using the orange October calendar they have in their STAR folders. The information sheet is in there as well. The students have to participate as it is how we are ensuring they are reading at home this year. Once completed each student will also recieve a Valley Reading Certificate. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE your MATH FACTS! Please make sure you are practicing your math facts whether it is doing flash cards each night for 10 minutes , playing a card game, or being on the everyday math website. *Don't forget to check out our STAR STUDENT of the WEEK from last week, Zachary Brossart!!! Stay tuned forthe upcoming information on Victoria coming this Friday! Did you know that teachers make mistakes? It is hard to believe but I am sure within this blog there are a few typos I did not catch. However, I made a huge typo for the star student of the week last week. I apologize Abigail! Just in case you are wondering Abigail's favorite food is WATERMELON not soccer!!! Thanks for being such a good sport and checking the website Abigail! Fall is here!!! Take a look at our Fall Acrostic Poems! The students did such a nice job on them, make sure to take a peak at them at conferences!! Also, if you haven't had a chance head on over to our STAR STUDENT section and learn about ABIGAIL from last week!!!!! This week we worked hard on biographies. Each student got to pick a specific person to report on for a selection of books. We will be finishing up our projects by doing a kidspiration activity on the computer. Stay tuned for a look at many projects to come!

The October Calendar and Lunch Menu will be put into your students STAR FOLDERS today! Keep an eye out for our new FARGO FORCE READING PROGRAM!!! I wanted to give a big thanks to all of your children. They have been so patient an understanding the last couple weeks as a lot has been going on.
