I hope everyone is enjoying their fresh start at a New Year! I am going to try and get better at posting on the website as I have not been doing as nearly good as I would like to. Right now the students are trying to get back into the routine and you can tell for some of them it has been hard. I am hoping the weather will warm up so they can get back outside as inside recess doesn't always cut it for all of them. P.S. I hope you all loved your Christmas presents they worked hard!
Anywho! Here is what we are learning about and important reminders: Writing- We just started Expository Writing. This writing is so fun for the students as they get to write to a prompt and support their reasoning. Today's prompt I got to model with them was name two things you would like to have in your dream bedroom. Social Studies- Do you remember the names of the 7 continents and 5 oceans? For the next two weeks we will be studying the continents and where they are located. Each child will pick their continent and have to do a report on it! Reading- Please make sure your child is reading. A lot of them are coming back with their minutes not in their agendas and they will openly admit to not reading ever. I will be honest until I became a teacher I never understood how important it was to read I just thought it was something people forced you to do. My mind has definitely changed and if only I could make it so all of them could see the importance. Please stress this with your child. We are currently learning about inferring and the morphographs -est and -less. Math- We are testing on Unit 5 on Friday and will be starting Unit 6 ... Geometry! This is a tough one for a lot of kids so it will definitely be one they lean more on you during their homelinks. Facts is also something I am seeing students lacking. If you could just spend 10 minutes a day with students whether it is driving in the car and shouting facts to them, flipping over two cards, going on xtra math or everyday math, or playing a fun game with them! I will be sending more flashcards home if not this week, next! Midterms will be sent home on Friday please let me know if you have any questions. We did do benchmarks so you will be able to see which areas your student might need to practice a little more! Thank you for all you do to help your child along with myself. I couldn't do it without your support!

December was filled with lots of projects and fun to celebrate the holiday season. I guess a little too much since I am just getting around now to write on the website! Here are a few of our projects: a winter door decorating contest (we got 2nd!), persuasive writing to Santa, polar express party, and bright wishes! See our results below! Bright WishesThis project was all about thinking of others during the holiday season. The students had one wish and need to not use it on themselves or on consumer items. Here is what the students who turned it in came up with: :
Landon- I wish for people to have food. Cooper- I wish all kids would be able to have school supplies. Chloe- I wish that everybody will have enough money to buy food and water. Also, I wish everybody will get a present for Christmas. Kalson- I wish for there to be a cure for all cancer. Tyler: I wish that everyone could stop texting and drinking and I wish the African American people could have food. Lexi- I wish that my friend could have love and care this Christmas and his mom and ad have money to buy him a gift. Blaze- I wish the people at war never died and homeless people had homes. Ethan- I wish for the homeless people all around the world could get houses. Dominic- I wish that people in Afghanistan would stop fighting and shooting with the military, also for other countries to stop fighting with each other. Abby- I wish that the troops could come home and see their family and have a break from war. Bradyn- I wish for the troops to come home and world peace. I also wish my brother would stop being mean. Najib- I wish they would stop the war and get along in Somalia. Anisha- I wish for people to stop texting and driving. Degan- I wish all the people who live in Somalia can have clean water. Fardowso- I wish people in Somalia can have enough food to eat. |
