In grammar this week we talked about helping verbs. I was so impressed by how fast the students memorized the song! Take a look at them singing it to the tune of Jingle Bells! If you are wondering yes they did know thier parents would be watching this up on the website! Remember geometry?? Well your child is already on their way to learning all about it. We just started Unit 6 in our Everyday Math Series and it focuses on Geometry. Here is the class practicing parallel and interesecting lines! We still need a little work, but they are doing pretty good! So far they have learned these vocabulary terms: ray, line segment, line, endpoint, vertex, angle, degrees, interesecting, and parallel lines. The third graders also had benchmarking this week to see if they are where they are as a third grader. I was pretty impressed with their progress! You will be able to see all of it on Friday as midterms will be going home! Don't forget to send in your conference sheet if you have not so we can get a time scheduled! Ooo I almost forgot! The students have been working hard on writing Fairy Tales for a competetion. They are so used to writing personal narratives that it was a good challenge for them to expierence a new genre. I will have them out at conferences for you to take a peek at!! Stay Warm and let me know if you have questions!!

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the holiday with family and friends! All of my family was in town over Winter break. It was finally nice to have everyone together. Unfortunately, I ended up getting really sick the Saturday to begin our break and didn't get better until the next Saturday. Just in time to cuddle my new 2 month old niece though! : ) I am feeling so much better and am ready to get back to teaching!!
Last Week's Weekly Update: Christmas Gifts: Did you love them? Hopefully we made something that can be put to good use in your home! I personally think they turned out pretty cute! I also had them tie their own bows and if you noticed they really did a great job! Project Linus: Our class along with all of Westside Elementary got a chance to give back to the community by making tie blankets for Project Linus! One thing that stands out to me with this class is their willingness to help and want to give back. It was so nice to see them eager to make the blankets. Holiday Celebration: Pajamas, Hot Chocolate, Snacks, and the Polar Express.... what more could you ask for? Last Friday was our big Polar Express Celebration. I wanted to surprise the students and hopefully make it something they would remember. Take a look into our day! We enjoyed flashlight reading the story, and walking down the tracks of the polar express, while ending the day laying on the floor enjoying the movie with some treats and hot chocolate! It is so fun to reward the students for all their hard work they did with the book prior to watching the movie! Reminder: Please make sure your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night. I can't stress enough how important this is. This is part of their homework everynight and does not change. It should be recorded on their Fargo Force Reading Calendars in order to meet the end of 3rd grade reading requirements. I have recieved a lot of calendars back with no reading minutes on them. I understand stuff comes up if you are too busy one night or if you are sick but please write the reason on the calendar and try to have your student make up for the loss time on the weekends! Thanks so much for all you do to support your child and their education. I couldn't do it without you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
