Welcome Parents / Guardians,
Welcome to third grade! We hope that you and your family had a relaxing summer break and are ready to begin an exciting year at Westside Elementary. Thank you so much for visiting our classroom website. It was so nice to meet all of you at the open house. I have designed this website to keep you informed about what is going on in our third grade world. I update the site often so make sure to check back from time. I will also try and email you every time I update so you can take a peek. Your child will encounter many new exciting things this year. Third grade is a year of transition from the development of skills to the development of independence. It is time for students to begin to assume responsibility for their education and become life-long learners. Most importantly it is a time for us to learn a lot and have FUN!!!
I would like to start the year by becoming partners with you in your child's education, so here is a quick overview of the items we will be studying throughout the year. In social studies we will work together while learning about communities, geography, and economics. We will investigate weather, force and motion, and animals and plants in our science units. In math, we will embark on a voyage of learning about new topics such as multiplication, along with new ways of thinking. We will explore many different genres as we learn about ourselves as readers and writers. Be sure to ask your child about what he or she learned each day. Be specific about what you ask, he or she is more apt to answer the question! : )
Having troubles finding something? On the page, " What's going on in Room 304" you will find our daily projects. How do you get there? Simply hover over Our Classroom Tab at the top and What's going on in Room 304 will drop down and you can click on it. Can't find your calendar? Click on the Calendar tab and print one off, or hover over calendar and wait for the drop down menu so you can see the district calendar! Please take the time to look through the website and get an idea of everything it has to offer. If you have any suggestions about what you would like added please let me know!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jenson
