Thank you to all of our parent volunteers that were able to come out for the service learning project! We got nothing but great compliments and the students seemed to really enjoy making random shoppers days and helping out! We got to clean the food court, interview small mall staff, make people's days handing out kindness cards, and open doors while greeting mall customers! Battle of Books was a success this year! It was the first time 3rd graders were able to compete in this competition. The third graders need to read at least 4 of the 13 books. After reading the books they had to take comprehension tests on them and make sure they remembered what they read. When it came to the final battle two teams were left standing! Take a peek below to see our 2nd place teams and SOME of the members of our class that participated. We were not able to get a picture of them all. I am SO PROUD of our class we had a lot of students participate who did a wonderful job!

Reading- In reading the students finished up learning about landforms with making a salt dough map. You might have already seen this come home! If not then they choose not to take it home. Right now the students are learning about Fairytales and Folktales! Ask your child what are some characteristics or elements that ALL Fairytales have! Math - More Multiplication is what we are focusing on again! We quickly reviewed how to subtract and now we are back to knowing our facts. It is super important that all 3rd graders go to 4th grade being fluent in their multiplication facts 0-12. What are some ways you can practice at home? Multiplication War, Apps on the Tablet such as: Math Slide it, Monster Math, 3D Math racing and the Fun Math Facts. Rock - Paper- Scissors- Math, or even making up your own gameboard out of cards is a good way to practice! Make it fun and exciting not a chore! Science- We are focusing on learning about magnets and started our next Genius Hour Project! We have genius hour every Monday afternoon during science or Friday depending on when we can get the lab! Check out a few of the past projects below. Writing - In honor of kindness week our classroom wrote kindness notes to each person in the staff! They even got to deliver them and feel what it feels like to make someone's day! We will be starting to work on Synthesizing this week. Our Service Learning Project is on FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!! We are so excited to visit the mall and give back to the community!! :)
P.S. Did you notice our IPADS AND WOBBLE STOOLS in the pictures above!! We are SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited to have them be apart of our room! Excitement is filling our classroom as we work to reach our goal of 1,554 dollars in order to reach the request made by students on what they are wanting more of to help them learn! We brainstormed a list of ideas and came up with iPads and Wobble Stools 4 of each. The students helped to explain WHY they wanted these and what they would use these tools for and I typed up our DonorsChoose! The boys and girls then made a poster so we could countdown our donations. Another group was in charge of typing the front flyer that went on the other side of the directions! Talk about some awesome writers! After that we all came together to make our video to tell you why its so important to us! Now it is time for us to spread the word and help our goals come true! I can't wait for them to see that anything is possible if you just believe and work hard! Stay tuned for our Progress as the countdown is on!
