Reading- For the last two weeks the students have been learning about Text Connections. When a good reader reads he or she tries to make a connection with the book he or she is currently reading to one he or she might have already read or possibly to something that has happened to themselves. For the next two weeks the students will work on doing the process they have learned with a partner and by themselves.
Social Studies- Students are working hard in groups to complete their Non-Fiction Matrix on either Teachers or School and how they have changed over time. The end result will be a typed paper similar to what the students were asked to do with continents! The next few weeks your student will be asked to do one on their own. Our hopes is your child will be able to read nonfiction books and pull out the key facts while reading. As learners we need to think ahead to the 21st century skills and prepare them for the future. This is great task that will help them throughout the years while researching and writing papers! Math- The Lattice Method of multiplying is coming your way! Are you ready for a new challenge that your student will LOVE and you will get to learn from them!? Please make sure your child is practicing their multiplication flash cards whenever they do not have a homelink and on the weekends! It is so important for your child to know their one digit facts as we are moving towards two digit multiplication! Writing- Where you ever taught how to build a strong paragraph? Do you remember going back and searching to see which paragraph of your story was weak? This is what your child is learning currently in writing. Your student has just finished their final Personal Narrative that will go in their Cum File and is now on to writing personal narratives for fun! AB- AB is an acronym for Accelerated Block. During our AB we are currently preparing your students for their MAP Test in the spring. Our goal is to improve on writing so we are making sure we go above and beyond to help your child do their best based on their level of needs! Have any questions? PLEASE ASK!!

March has been reading month in our school and it has been full of fun activities to promote every student to READ!!! Does that mean we can stop reading? Absolutely not! I am hoping reading month has inspired a new spark in your child to want to read even more because they WANT to not because the have to!
Just a reminder I have reduced the amount of reading down to 20 minutes as I have been sending fluency packets home as well! Please make sure you are reading with your child. Below are pictures throughout the reading month. THANK YOU TO ALL PARENTS who came and read with their child. It was one of the best turn outs I have ever had! It makes me so happy I have awesome parents to work with who truly care about helping their child succeed in their education! We have been working on our class book entitled: What will you be when you grow up? Most of the student's have finished typing their paragraphs and are working on drawing their pictures! The books are due at the end of April so stay tuned for pictures of the project and don't forget to fill out the order form if you would like to purchase one!!
Want to know what your child shares during morning meeting each day?! Take a peak at their thoughts to the question! All you have to do is Hoover your mouse over the student tab and click on Students talk! Click on the comments and you can read what he or she replied with. If the comment is indented your child commented on another students post! Enjoy!!
During our Social Studies Unit the students have the opportunity for a volunteer to come into our classroom and teach them all about different things that happen in the real life community. So far we have learned the different zones of a community, what kind of buildings are in the zones, why we have bank accounts, and the different types of payments you can use! I love when the students get to learn about the difference in checks, debit cards, cash, and credit cards and how to withdrawl and deposit money into a savings account. We have 2 more Friday's left with Michelle she has been so awesome to have in a our room! Thank you Hospitality Inc. & Junior Achievement in allowing us to have so much FUN!
