Important Reminders and Updates: Book It- As a third grade team we decided to participate in Pizza Hut's Book It reading program this year. Each child's goal is to read 400 minutes a month. If they reach their goal they will get a free coupon for a personal pan pizza. Lucky for your child 400 minutes in a month is only reading 20 minutes Mon- Friday each day. In my classroom they are to read 30 minutes every night. So really if they are doing their homework they are getting rewarded with a personal pan pizza! How awesome is that! How do I know if they have read... Please look below at the picture of your child's agenda At the top of the agenda you will see a week tracker. Please have your child fill this out each night. I ask that you sign at the end of the week saying you have seen them read this amount. If you would like to sign each day it would make me smile even more! :)
Conferences- Make sure you have signed the red conference form and have sent it back to school. If you have contacted me on a time that does not work I need to go through the office and will get back to you asap. Your child's recent Math Test score will also be shared that day along with a lot of more goodies! Keyboarding- Let your students practice as much as they would like to at home. Please check in on them to make sure they are not pecking at they keys or looking at their fingers the whole time. Star Students - We are almost done with our puzzle pieces for each student. I will post are finish project sometime towards the end of October and put each individual child's answers up. I decided I would like them to be able to practice their typing so I am going to have them edit their own information. Stay tuned! Reminder the students are allowed to bring 3 items to share with the class. When we do not have puzzle pieces they can still bring in 3 things! New Calendar- The October calendar is up on the website and also in your child's STAR Binder. I included the specials at the top this time. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions you would like to see done differently. Spelling Test- We do not have spelling tests this year. It has been proven that when children are given spelling words they are just memorizing them at home for the test and they forget them after the test. Instead we are doing a phonics test. The students will have a certain phonics skill each week and will practice their words during Daily 5. At the end of the week the skill will be tested! Running Club- Westside offers a running club to the boys and girls who are in 3rd to 5th grade. The program will run until early December and is FREE! It is held every Monday after scool from 2:50- 3:30 and Thursday during their recess time. The club is led by NDSU students who are in the physical education program. Please fill out the white form if your student is interested
