Short week means lots and lots of curriculum to get in in a short amount of time! Don’t worry we made sure to get our brain breaks in. Have you heard your child sing the “Gummy Bear Song” maybe talking about other songs they have danced to? Those are our brain breaks. It is important for a child to get a minute break for their brains in between learning! When we weren’t dancing, this is what we were focusing on: Math- This week we learned practiced telling time on an analog clock, measuring with inches and centimeters, and using tally marks and bar graphs to study data. Scroll down to see pictures of us practicing our time and being analog clocks! So much fun!! Reading- In reading we read our first story, Ruby the Copy Cat and reviewed how to identify charters and setting. We used tri-folds to better comprehend the story, and on Friday the students had a comprehension test. They did great!! The students also learned the four kinds of sentences: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory. This year we are trying something new. No more spelling tests. Why you ask? Please check your students STAR Folder on Monday for a letter explaining it. Your child will learn a skill each week and on Friday will be tested on how they can apply the skill. This week we focused on adding –ed to the words. Thank you for helping your child practice at home. Science- In third grade the students get to experience three big science units: Earth Materials, Electricity and Magnetism, and the Human Body. On Friday the students got their first lesson on rocks! Each student has a partner and their own mock rock. We will be geologists and study the rocks in depth every other day! The days we do not have science the students will have social studies with Mrs. Steinbrink. Writing- The students are off making storyboards for their personal narratives. It is so fun to watch the students be able to orally tell their stories with a partner. They are doing so great making sure to have all the details in their story. Social Skills: We have 10 life skills we have for behavior. Please look down at the bottom of this page to watch our class in action showing you have to be a good listener, how to get the teachers attention, follow directions, and? Coupon Books: The fundraiser has started! Westside will benefit $10 from every book sold. The students are so excited to get selling. It is so beneficial to our school along with so many great rewards for the students who work hard. We talked about how the student should be polite and try to sell them by themselves before asking for help from their parents. Please consider purchasing one and helping you child sell a few more. The coupons are amazing. All of the yellow ones inside are FREE! Such great deals! JAny classroom who sells 100 coupons books earns a free pizza party!! REMINDER: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, make sure you are remembering to send your child to school with a healthy snack each day. The extras we have at school are limited. Also, remind your child how important it is to have them show you their agenda every night and get it signed! Thanks for all you do! Take a Sneak Peek into our classroom...... 1.
