I am so excited for this upcoming year. Our class is full of amazing students and I can tell they are ready to work hard and learn lots. This first week the students were introduced to so much. Here is what we are learned this week and will continue to work on:
Everyday Math - This week in math we focused on finding numbers. Numbers are all around us everywhere we look. We also worked on counting by 10’s or other numbers. This helped us to solve number-grid puzzles. We even learned our first two math games, number line squeeze and less than you!! Ask your child how to play these and play with them. If you have a computer your child can visit the Everyday Math website online . Their login is located on a label on the front of their agenda. These games are an essential part of our math series and will help your child grow. Writing: During the first few months of school we will be learning about and writing personal narratives. Personal narratives are stories about ourselves that have a feeling and most importantly a PROBLEM!!. Your students goal for the week was to be able to make a list of at least 15 ideas for problems that he or she could write about in the future. This week, if you can remember a story where your child had a problem in it please share it with them! Social Skills: This year we are focusing on learning the 10 behavior life skills the district has provided for us. We will have school assemblies on them, and in our classroom we are also practicing them. Stay tuned for videos brought to you by our class on how to be a Good Listener, Staying on Task, Following Directions, and Getting the Teachers Attention. The students are having so much fun presenting to the class a good example and a what not to do example! Art Projects: We have completed are first 3 art projects this year. We learned about contour lines and made name tags for our lockers! SO COOL!!! We also talked and brainstormed about goals for the 2012-2013 school year. Each student was able to set and make 3 goals for the year. We even got a head start on our Fall Acrostic Poems. Check out a few pictures of our projects below!!
