The first week of school has already come and gone! Can you believe it? I hope you are all enjoying your wonderful long weekend and come back refreshed and ready to learn! Did I mention that all of you have GREAT KIDS! We have been working hard on school/ class procedures this week and building our classroom community. It has been fun to get to know everyone. Some of the students have already memorized everyone's name! Next week we are going to start diving into our curriculum but all written homework will be done in school so each student knows exactly what to expect. Here are a few things that might have got miscommunicated or lost in translation on back to school night: 1. Snack- We are so excited to welcome back the Fresh Fruit and Veggies Program Tuesday - Fridays this year! What do you do for Mondays? I sent home a letter in the green back to school folder asking if each student could bring one big box or 2 boxes that amount to 25 servings for our class so that we can have a snack cupboard. This cupboard will be used to give each student a snack on Monday. It works out so nice, plus everyone gets the same snack that day so we have no confusion! What if you child doesn't like the fresh fruit and veggies? Well I ask that they have a back up snack. I know you have already donated a huge box or two for the class drawe,r but these are only for Mondays to share with everyone in the class. THANKS! 2. Agenda- Your child has an agenda in thier black star folder. Please make sure you sign it every night. I know it can get crazy some nights so if a student misses it once I ask that you sign that day tomorrow as well. If the child misses two days they will have to clip down. I want them to know that it is their responsiblity to ask you, so try and help them by making a consistant plan as to when a good time for you to sign it would be! 3. Reading- Students are required to read for 30 minutes everynight. I tell them they do not have to sit down and read for 30 minutes straight, but somehow they need to get 30 minutes in that day. These minutes can be broken into 10 minute intervals if you would like. Maybe 10 minutes when they get home, 10 minutes before bed, and 10 minutes when they wake up. It is all what works best for you and your family. Where can they record these minutes? On the top right page of their agenda is a tiny spot to record the minutes and pages they have read. BE HONEST! I want to know what they are doing. 4. Communication- Please contact me whenever you have a question!!! I am always open to talk and discuss any concerns you might have. I want this to be the best year for you child. So if you are noticing anything that might be bothering you or your child feel free to bring it to my attention. All I ask is that it is in a polite way please! I will email you (my goal is every Friday) with an update on the website including what we have done or pictures from the week! Please take the time to read it! EnJoY tHe PiCtUrEs BeLoW!!!! (I apologize for the some of the answers that are hard to see. The whiteboard and camera flash were being a little stubborn!) Also if you click on the individual picture it will get bigger! What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up? Thank you for all you do and taking an active role in your child's education!!!
